A Guide to Awakening the Body and Breath
Founder of “Shinkido”
MAYUMI HASEGAWA
Born in Tokyo, Japan. Currently based in Oregon, USA.
After graduating from the Department of Architecture at Kogakuin University, she launched her own business in 2000. In 2009, due to severe overwork and stress, she suddenly lost her voice and stepped down from her executive position.
She then began studying breathwork under her elementary school mentor, Hiroaki Fujimori, a breathwork instructor. After nearly a year without a voice, she experienced a full recovery, which led her to deeply realize that “relaxation is the greatest form of healing.”
In 2014, when her father collapsed from an acute heart attack, she applied the qigong healing practices she had been studying, resulting in a remarkable recovery. This experience became a turning point, leading her to fully dedicate herself to the study and practice of qigong and breathwork.
Driven by a strong desire to help others, she began offering treatments and energy work to individuals suffering from mental illness, cancer, and other serious conditions.
In 2017, she founded the “Mayumido Breathwork School” in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
In December 2019, she relocated her base of operations to the West Coast of the United States and began offering online breathwork classes in 2021.
In April 2023, she opened the “HIBIKI Wellness” dojo in Portland, Oregon.
Currently, she offers qigong healing, remote healing sessions, breathwork classes, and retreats both in the U.S. and internationally. She also travels monthly to Berkeley, California, to provide in-person healing sessions and classes.
With over 18 years of experience, she has worked with more than 2,400 clients.
In April 2026, she exhibited at the NEW LIVING EXPO in California, gaining international recognition and acclaim. She is the founder of the original system “Shinkido” and established the “Breathwork General Incorporated Association” in Japan. Through this organization, she is developing structured training programs and certification systems to promote and systematize breathwork.
